Assisted living facilities are regulated differently from nursing homes. Most residents can perform some of their own activities of daily living. Usually neglect occurs when they don’t get help with things they can’t do for themselves.
Assisted living abuse and neglect can take many forms, but the following is a list of common types:
- Physical abuse
- Psychological abuse
- Unsanitary conditions
- Bedsores
- Injuries from Falls
- Other health problems
- Breach of contract
- Financial exploitation
Warning signs of abuse and neglect can include:
- Unexplained injuries
- Visitation rights restricted or revoked
- Sudden weight loss
- Dramatic mood changes
- Financial problems
If you believe your loved one is a victim of neglect or abuse the first step is putting a stop to it. Speak with the administration. If that doesn’t work, call an ombudsman. If you believe criminal action occurred, call the police. If necessary, get your loved one out of the facility. And call us.
